LT-STM

(Sophia)

This instrument works in ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions and is operated at cryogenic temperatures (either at 77 K or at 5 K). It is capable of high resolution STM imaging and scanning tunnelling spectroscopy (STS). It is endowed with a number of sample preparation and deposition facilities, including e-beam metal evaporation, organic molecular beam deposition (OMBD) and electrospray deposition (ESD).

VT-STM

(Mathilda)

Extremely stable and highly versatile UHV instrument, capable of working in a wide temperature range (400-150 K) and of video speed scanning. It is equipped with a large number of UHV molecular deposition techniques, including liquid source, low sublimation temperature source, organic molecular beam deposition (OMBD), electrospray deposition (ESD) and electrospray ion beam deposition (ES-IBD).

RT-STM-AFM

Room temperature UHV system composed of several OMBD sources and analytical techniques including, low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) operated at low current, ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and cantilever atomic force microscopy (AFM).

Electrospray ion beam deposition (ES-IBD)

(SEISMIC)

One of the few instruments of this kind worldwide, SEISMIC is capable to soft-land thermolabile macromolecules intact onto surfaces in UHV while at the same time determining their mass by electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry.

Ambient condition STM

Highly stable and versatile STM instrument operated at ambient conditions and capable of measuring in air or at the liquid-solid interface.
